COLLEGE PREP STRATEGIES

As a senior, waiting for college acceptance letters and decisions can be nerve-wracking and stressful. But there is yet another thing to worry about for many students, and that is living life on campus. There are many tips and tricks that a new freshmen can use to help make their lives easier and more productive while getting used to a new lifestyle.

PLANNING

Make sure to plan out your days and stay organized. Having a planner, whether it be online or on paper, can help keep you on track even when there are many other things going on at the same time. Planning ahead can ensure that you are not overworking yourself, and also give you peace of mind knowing that you are prepared for the upcoming days. Planning goes hand and hand with time management, and these two factors are very important for success when in college.

BUILD NEW RELATIONSHIPS

In college, you will meet new people, whether they be professors, students, or other staff. They may have connections and important information that can help you in school or in your career later on in life. Building strong relationships with your mentors can help make sure that you are supported by seasoned professionals that know a lot about the school. Making friends may seem scary, but by putting yourself out there and being you, you may find people that you treasure forever.

KNOW YOUR PRIORITIES

A lot of things happen in college, from meeting new friends, traveling to new places, and more, but it is important to stay focused and know what to prioritize. While it may be tempting to go to a party instead of studying for an exam, at the end of the day, you have to decide which is the better choice. At the same time, however, know when to take a break. Don’t stress yourself mentally and don’t overwork yourself, because that can lead to burnout, where you may feel unmotivated.

LEARN ABOUT YOUR COLLEGE

Learn about the programs, clubs, activities, events, and more at the clubs in your college. Make sure to look at things like accreditation and support resources as well. Research finances and stay on the lookout for job opportunities and internships that interest you. Connect with peers as well as professors and other adults who can help you on your college journey. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, because chances are, other people have the same questions as you.
